Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about UAE business setup, accounting, taxation, and our services.
What types of companies can I register in the UAE?
You can register a company in the UAE as a Mainland company (allows trading anywhere in the UAE), a Free Zone company (ideal for specific activities with tax benefits), or an Offshore company (for international operations). Each has different requirements for office space, visa eligibility, and ownership structure.
How long does it take to set up a company in the UAE?
A Free Zone company can be set up in 3–5 business days. Mainland company registration typically takes 2–4 weeks, depending on the activity and approvals required. With Saturna's support, we streamline the process and handle all government interactions on your behalf.
Do I need a local sponsor for a Mainland company?
Since the UAE company law reforms in 2021, most business activities no longer require a local service agent or sponsor for 100% foreign ownership. However, certain regulated activities may still have specific requirements. We can advise based on your specific business activity.
What is VAT and when do I need to register?
VAT (Value Added Tax) is 5% in the UAE. Mandatory registration is required if your taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 per year. Voluntary registration is possible from AED 187,500. VAT returns must be filed quarterly. Saturna handles the entire VAT registration and filing process for you.
Is Corporate Tax applicable to my business?
UAE Corporate Tax (CT) at 9% applies to taxable profits exceeding AED 375,000. Businesses with profits below this threshold pay 0%. Free Zone companies that meet certain conditions can continue to benefit from 0% CT. Registration for CT is mandatory for all businesses. We help you determine your obligations and ensure full compliance.
What accounting records do I need to keep?
UAE law requires all businesses to maintain proper accounting records for at least 5 years (7 years for tax-related records). This includes invoices, receipts, bank statements, contracts, payroll records, and financial statements. Saturna sets up and maintains your complete accounting system, so you never have to worry about compliance.
How does the WPS payroll system work?
WPS (Wage Protection System) is a UAE Central Bank system that ensures employees are paid on time through registered financial institutions. Employers must submit salary files through approved agents. Saturna manages your entire payroll cycle — salary calculations, WPS file generation, and compliance reporting.
Do I need an audit for my company?
Most Free Zones require annual audited financial statements. Mainland companies may also need audits depending on their size and structure. Even when not mandatory, audited accounts provide credibility with banks, investors, and government authorities. Saturna prepares all documentation and coordinates with auditors on your behalf.
What visas can I get through my UAE company?
Through your UAE company, you can obtain investor/partner visas, employment visas for staff, and dependent visas for family members. Free Zone companies typically get 2–6 visas depending on office space, while Mainland companies can get more. We guide you through the entire visa process.
